12-year-old Angel Salguero Diaz identified as boy killed in Sunday night Columbus shooting

Columbus police have identified a boy pronounced dead Sunday evening after he was found with a gunshot wound on Columbus' Northeast Side.

At about 10:17 p.m. in the 1300 block of East Hudson Street, Columbus police received a call and arrived to find a person now identified as Angel Salguero Diaz, 12, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Medics arrived at 10:24 p.m. and pronounced Diaz dead. The Columbus Division of Police is still working to determine what lead to the shooting, according to a police report.

Columbus Police Detective Russ Weiner said the department is working to piece together the events of the night using video footage. Investigators have not zeroed in on any suspects and made no arrests in the shooting as of Wednesday afternoon.

Columbus City Schools confirmed that a student named Angel Salguero Diaz was enrolled at the district, but would not provide a school or grade level.
